About 250 people packed into Leichhardt Town Hall in Sydney on October 7 for the fifth annual ΒιΆΉΣ³» Weekly comedy fundraiser β with this yearβs event being the first all-women line up.
The theme, βFeminists Laugh Backβ, comes in the context of the misogyny pushed from the White House to the mainstream media, while the all-women line-up comes in the context of the widely noted male-dominated nature of the comedy scene.
Brilliantly MCβd by Melbourne-based comic and feminist activist Kirsty Mac, the show featured upβand-coming comedy team Freudian Nip as well as Emma Malik, Sallie Don, Elysia Hall, Sian Smyth and Frida Deguise. The show was closed by Julia Wilson in a storming performance of the sort those who have had the pleasure of seeing her on stage would expect. The Solidarity Choir also performed.
