National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) members at the University of Sydney went on strike, for the seventh time, on March 9 in pursuit of their enterprise agreement.

Branch president Nick Riemer said on social media β€œit was the most highly-attended and effective to date”.

While the university recorded a $1 billion surplus in 2021, management is cutting funds from research, cutting courses and increasing student-to-staff ratios.

The NTEU has been trying to negotiate a new agreement for 20 months. The union is seeking job security for casual staff,Β a fair pay rise, permanent jobs for First Nations people and leave for transitioning workers.
