Cold weather did not deter pro-Palestine activists undertaking a 48-hour hunger strike at Sydney Town Hall Square, over June 9-11. Still more participated from home.Β
Activists draped a Palestinian flag over the City of Sydneyβs iconic βanchorβ sculpture, also using it as a makeshift shelter.
Vivienne Moore, who participated in the strike, told ΒιΆΉΣ³»: βWe need humanity to stand with us to stop the genocide in Gaza. The risk of famine in Gaza is increasing with the deliberate withholding of humanitarian aid, including food, in the ongoing blockade.β
Moore said the Gaza Freedom Flotilla crew were βheroesβ for exposing the complete failure of global governments to lift a finger to stop Israelβs mass starvation and genocide in Gaza.
βThe entire 2.1 million population of Gaza is facing prolonged food shortages, with nearly half a million people in a catastrophic situation of hunger, acute malnutrition, starvation, illness and death. This is one of the worldβs worst hunger crises, unfolding in real time.
βWitnesses say that Israel-supervised access to minimal aid supplies has lead to long journeys, desperation, crowding into wire cages, shootings and death.βΒ
Spain has summoned the Israeli Embassy head in Madrid, Dan Porez, for a reprimand, following the arrest of the Madleen flotilla crew, of which Sergio Toribio was the one Spaniard on board.
βAustralians and the Albanese government need to do more to end this war safely and peacefully. Please stand with us as we stand with humanity,β Moore said.
