The Victorian government has announced it will amend the National Parks Act in May to include the Anglesea Heathlands in the Great Otway National Park.
βProtection of Victoriaβs richest and most diverse vegetation community, the Anglesea Heathlands, was long overdue,β Victorian National Parks Association executive director Matt Ruchel said on February 2.
βFor decades we have campaigned with the Geelong Environment Council and local group ANGAIR to have the Anglesea Heathlands protected.
βThe 2015 closure of Alcoa's Anglesea mine and power station, and now the delivery on the 2014 election commitment by the Daniel Andrews Government, has finally secured that protection.
